El Paisa Taqueria, nestled at 2900 International Blvd in Oakland, CA, is a genuine gem for lovers of authentic Mexican cuisine. This vibrant taqueria captures the essence of street food with a menu that bursts with bold, traditional flavors and hearty, satisfying options. From the first bite, you are transported to a bustling Mexican market with the irresistible aroma of grilled carne asada and the delicate crispness of freshly fried Tacos Dorados.
The menu shines with signature dishes like the perfectly marinated Carne Asada Tacos, the zesty and tender Shrimp Tacos with the Works, and the ever-popular Al Pastor, which delivers a tantalizing balance of smoky, sweet, and savory notes. For those seeking meat alternatives, the Vegetarian Burrito offers a wholesome and flavorful choice, while the Tilapia Frita Fried Tilapia impresses with its golden crunch and flaky texture. Don’t overlook the Fajitas de Camaron served alongside comforting arroz y frijoles refritos, a soulful combination that perfectly rounds out the meal.
Dining at El Paisa is more than just eating—it’s an experience. The intimate and quaint setting buzzes with lively Latin music, occasionally lifted by impromptu sing-alongs from the staff, fostering a warm, communal atmosphere. Customers often find themselves savoring refreshing horchata, piña, or hibiscus drinks, which beautifully complement the intense, sizzling flavors on their plates. The ever-present salsa bar, dotted with pickled carrots and fresh radishes, invites guests to customize each bite with a spicy, tangy kick.
Patrons like Reed Chavez rave about the fast service and friendly staff who make everyone feel like a local, while Jasmin Ortega highlights the freshness of the fish tacos and the unbeatable value of every cash-only penny spent. David Hillman’s loyalty, marked by 34 visits, underscores the consistent quality and generous portions that keep guests returning time and again. The adventurous foodie Mortiche Wong admires the tender offal tacos—such as tacos de cabeza—that elevate El Paisa beyond typical taqueria fare, appealing to a refined yet fearless palate.
El Paisa Taqueria is more than just a spot to eat; it’s a celebration of Mexican culinary heritage served with passion and authenticity. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a curious newcomer, this Oakland staple promises a genuinely flavorful journey that lingers long after the last taco is devoured.
Come on in! The staff if very nice, and the locals love this place. Fast service and quaint little place with music pumping in the background and occasional staff singing along.. Sit down, and grab an Horchata, Pina or Habiscus drink or fountain drink. Great authentic Latino food as close to street food as you can get. Grabs some pickled carrots or fresh radishes and salsa bar for chips. The street tacos were delicious! PS: Cash Only
My 2nd favorite taqueria, the first being El Paisa further down the road! Cash only, and you pay after you dine. I like to eat the 'nasty bits' or offal at taquerias, because I can make carnitas or carne asada at home, but the rest of my family isn't as wild about tongue, brains, or head as I am! The offal tacos are flavorful and very tender, never dry. At the other location the meat sometimes has a little more crispness to the bits, but that's a minor tick against them. Self serve accompaniments are kept chilled by the counter, I only wish they had the pineapple carrot escabeche and the simmered nopales here too! The darker red salsa packs the most heat but lacks better flavor than the less smoky, lighter colored salsa. Ho
I've eaten here 3-4 times. It's always tasty and generous. Last time I parked at Goodwill across the street and got my wife a leather jacket cheap.
Really tasty and fresh food! Everything is freshly prepared and made to order. It’s usually not to busy and the staff were very friendly and service was quick. Great place to go for tacos!
Super delicious food authentic Mexican food.. ordered some fish tacos and they were freshly made. The service was great. Good to make note that it’s cash only but ITS WORTH WVERY PENNY.. coming back.
There are tons of Mexican food choices in this area and I'm glad we choose El Paisa. It was not crowded, easy going, and delicious. I got a burrito the size of my head and my partner got 3 tacos. Everything tasted great and the price was right. I recommend the lengua.
